capitalyst is an app that helps young investors to invest smartly in the stock exchange. The app introduces key trading concepts in a fun way and provides a simplified interface for beginners who want to invest. capitalyst is a product for the Indian market, particularly the Bombay Stock Exchange and National Stock Exchange.
Stock market investors using mobile trading platforms encounter challenges such as information overload, cluttered interfaces, and a lack of user-friendliness. Young Investors find it particularly hard to learn investing in such trading platforms.
Simplifying the information displayed, decluttering the interfaces, and creating intuitive, and enjoyable can address these issues and improve the overall trading experience for mobile users, especially young investors.
My research strategy was to research investments first and the stock market later on. The reason for that was to understand the foundation of personal finance and then to understand the stock market. After researching investments and the stock market, I then had to begin with my primary research which would supplement the secondary research. Primary research includes interviews, surveys, and user testing, whereas secondary research is online articles, books, and research papers.
Secondary Research involves the research I did using articles, research papers, and books. Firstly, I read the SEBI Investors Survey Report to learn about the investment habits of the general Indian population. Secondly, I also came across supplementary reports and studies about investing. Later on, I did market research on my competitors in the Indian market. I selected Zerodha, ICICI, Sharekhan, and Kotak Securities as my competitors.

I wanted the wireframes to look friendly, uncluttered, and minimal. I started by adding the basic features and then added more complex features to the app. After the wireframes were created, they were shown to the users for feedback and testing. From the feedback that I got, I added some features and discarded some, and made some changes to the size of the fonts and components. SF Pro Font was used in making the low-fidelity wireframes.
I chose and selected about four people who would be part of my user research and give feedback on my wireframes. This would be a face-to-face interview and the research would be used to improve my wireframes.
I imagined the company to be "friendly", "fun", "trustworthy" and "expansion of wealth". So I started by making a mind map for the probable name of the company. Finally, I choose the word "Capitalyst" which is derived from two words "Capital" and "Analyst". "Capital" is the trade capital, which is the sum of money a trader invests. Whereas, an "Analyst" is someone who studies stocks. The logomark is derived from the letter "C" from the wordmark "capitalyst". The logomark also represents the expansion of growth and wealth.
The app has many features like Onboarding, Discovery Tour, Two-Step Verification, Watchlist, Markets Overview, Search, Portfolio, Profit and Loss Statement, A.I. Assistant, Messages, Stock Suggestions, ShareStocks, Dark Mode, Detailed StockOverview, Technical Analysis, Fundamental Analysis, Market Depth, and News.

Creating a Dark Mode for the app was a new takeaway for me. I learned how Dark Modes can entirely change aesthetics of the interface and understood the benefits of light/dark modes.
I learned a lot while creating a clear and intuitive information architecture for the app, including organizing information such as stock prices, charts, and financial news.
